It’s music from the soul, in the intimate setting you love, with some of the best voices in blues today.
There’s a river of history running through this season’s PCL Blues series. Experience the loose and meditative hill-country blues of RL Boyce and Montreal’s raw talent, Cécile Doo-Kingué. Explore Duke Robillard’s 50-year career as a blues guitar master. Take a trip with the American Songster, Dom Flemons, through American ballads and folksongs. Discover the juke-joint blues and boogie-woogie piano of “Little Boogaloo” Eden Brent. And finally, witness the power of the Queen of Detroit Blues, Thornetta Davis, who has opened for legends like Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, and Buddy Guy.
Arts Commons is proud to have supported Blues music for the past two decades. PCL Blues presents international and Canadian artists to eager Calgary fans in both the intimate atmosphere of the Engineered Air Theatre and the Georgian-style, 400-seat Martha Cohen Theatre.
