Welcome to Arts ReimaginED: the MAKING
Now in its second year, we are inviting all Calgarians to reimagine the role Arts Education plays in the development of young people and in creating inclusive and accessible communities.
Teachers
What if we used artmaking to learn about others and the world around us? What if we allowed students to make and create, and then take it out into the world to share? What if students lingered in the process of art making to discover instead of making a product?
This May, Arts Commons is sending local teaching artists to Calgary schools for 135+ workshops to activate the imagination and inspire curiosities – for FREE!
Meet the 2024 Arts ReimaginED in-classroom teaching artists!
Thank you for your interest! This years' workshops are full, sign up to our email list to learn about future opportunities.
Parents & Caregivers
Making – The process of combining items, to change the state of something, to learning and discover new things. Our FREE family workshops will ignite imagination and curiosity, build artistic skills and knowledge, and have you making joyful memories together. Join the Arts Commons Education team and our workshop teaching artists to make, discover and explore!
Summit for Everyone
This year we explore the power of making, sharing, and collaborating TOGETHER. Juno award winning Blues singer and teacher, Dawn Tyler Watson will share words of inspiration about the power the arts have to change (and save) lives. In the afternoon we will MAKE with Tall Feathers and COLLABORATE to create a very special feather raising ceremony in the Plaza!
Arts ReimaginED: the Making registration is closed. Still want to get involved? Sign up for our email list to learn about future Arts ReimaginED opportunities.
Arts ReimaginED: Phase 1 – 2023
In 2023, through support and collaboration, Arts ReimaginED, brings together teachers, parents and caregivers, and teaching artists to bring arts education back into the lives of children and youth. Arts education provides foundational learning building blocks that develop core competencies in the next generation of successful adults. Learn more about the importance of arts education in Calgary from our Arts Education Benchmark Survey.
During UNESCO's International Arts Education Week in May 2023, Arts ReimaginED launched in-classroom workshops, professional development sessions, arts education activations at community centres, and a summit to discuss the future of arts education in our city.
Over 7 days, 24 teaching artists provided 148 free art activations to all 4 quadrants of Calgary, totalling 178 hours of hands-on learning!
