Pumpkin Suncatchers

Written by Karen Youngberg | Oct 17, 2022 6:00:00 AM

Take advantage of that autumn light with these fun and easy suncatchers! Grab some wax paper, tissue paper, and a few other household items to get started.

Supplies:

2 pieces of wax paper (8.5x11) | Orange and black tissue paper | Mod podge or watered-down white glue | Black Sharpie | 1” wide paint brush | Scissors | Pumpkin stencil (if desired)

Let’s get organized!

- Cut up the orange tissue paper into 2” x 2” squares.

- Cut the black tissue paper into face shapes, dots, or desired pattern.

- If you want to trace a pumpkin, place the stencil under 1 piece of wax paper and trace with your sharpie (this way students know where to put the tissue paper).

Let’s get creating!

- Using your paint brush, apply mod podge/glue to your wax paper.

- Apply a piece of orange tissue paper then paint it on with mod podge/glue.

- Repeat until your wax paper is covered in orange.

- Add the pumpkin face or design to your wax paper.

- Place the 2nd piece of wax paper on top of the 1st piece.

- Use your hands to smooth the top piece of wax paper down, squishing out any air bubbles.

- Let dry overnight.

The next day

- Trace the pumpkin on top again and add any other lines you would like.

- Cut on the outer edge of the black line.

Ta da! Hold your suncatcher up to the light to see the complete effect.
