Theatre Calgary
Theatre Calgary’s roots go back to the 60s. In its first two decades, Theatre Calgary presented a mix of classic and new plays, including works by Canadian writers John Murrell, W.O. Mitchell, and Sharon Pollock. In 1985, Theatre Calgary became the resident company of Arts Commons' Max Bell Theatre, where it has dedicated itself to large-scale productions of classics, contemporary plays, and musicals. Theatre Calgary has collaborated with renowned companies such as Soulpepper, the Shaw Festival, and the National Arts Centre. Their FUSE Enbridge New Play Development Program has premiered many new Canadian works. Theatre Calgary maintains its strong commitment to Calgary’s theatre community, with an annual co-production in One Yellow Rabbit’s High Performance Rodeo and producing the popular summer series of Shakespeare by the Bow.
