Artist Bio

Christopher Gamble's artistic journey is a unique blend of physical theatre, roving site animation, and theatre for young audiences. His career in the arts began at Treehouse Youth Theatre in the early 90s, and he has since honed his skills through formal training at Red Deer College and various workshops and intensives. Notably, he studied clowning in New Zealand under Allen Clay and the Pockenko style of clowning with Mike Kennard. His current focus is on directing and producing, a path he is eager to explore further.

Christopher's commitment to his craft is unwavering. This dedication led him to further his education at Deanna Fleysher's School for Comedy Beasts and Jon Davison'ss London School of Clowns in the UK. He recently attended a Master Class led by Fraiser Hooper, a clowning and mime expert, demonstrating his continuous pursuit of excellence.

Focused on theatre for young audiences (TYA), his earlier self-produced works include 'The Problem with Winslow,' 'Happy Birthday to the End of the World,' and 'The Odd-yessy.' He is currently in rehearsals for The Suitcase Circus, which will debut at the Edmonton Fringe Festival this August. In September, he will be a part of the Night Light Festival at Victoria Park with a new work centred around poetry written on a 1934 typewriter.

Christopher has made significant contributions to the artistic community, including co-founding the Calgary Clown Society and serving as the Creative Director for the Calgary Clown Festival. His recent initiative, the Clown Gym in collaboration with the Canadian Academy of Mask and Puppetry, aims to build, encourage, and train anyone in the Calgary area interested in physical theatre. He is dedicated to fostering a supportive community of like-minded artists and making a large community of clowns similar to the current boom of puppeteers that we are fortunate to have here in the city. Christopher's artistic philosophy emphasizes magic realism, challenging audience expectations and creating work with honesty and heart. He has called Calgary home for the past 14 years and lives here with his three children.
