Artist Statement

Mario and I are movement researchers and choreographers, graduates from the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts, Damascus Syria, with a bachelor's degree in dance, identified as BIPOC artists hailing from Syria. Currently based at Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 lands, we find immense joy and gratitude in being part of Calgary's arts community.

Together we bring a rich blend of styles to our collaborative work. Our repertoire deepened into contact improvisation, ballet, contemporary dance, folklore dance and more. In Calgary in 2022, 2023 and 2024, we co-created dance works supported by various arts organizations such as Dancers’ Studio West, The GRAND, and Ritual Arts Endeavour. Over two consecutive years, we were commissioned to produce original pieces for the Fluid Festival, a prominent Canadian dance and movement festival. Our pinnacle achievement to date is the self-produced, large-scale show titled ERROR 404 Sign not Found, presented by The GRAND in June 2023, Calgary, AB, marking the official start for our collective: Error 404 Dance Found Collective, since then we've been crafting a unique artistic journey, blending dramatic narratives, humor, and innovative performances. Our choreography delves into the profound exploration of human existence, rooted in our rich cultural heritage and inspired by the pulse of everyday life.

We believe that we have much more to offer in our future creations to the art community,  continuously pushing the boundaries of our artistic practice.
