Artist Bio

Tall Feathers invites you to explore cultural connection through feather art, embracing Indigenous wisdom, and sharing human stories. Our workshops offer a gentle path for reconciliation, recognizing our shared humanity. In the spirit of collaboration, we create striking seven-foot paper feathers filled with graphic elements, set in wood stems and smaller three-foot versions called Story Feathers.  

Guided by Indigenous Elders and local artists, participants transcribe their stories through the colours and markings on the feathers. The workshops begin with a traditional ceremony and end in celebratory raisings. Tall Feathers provides a fun, creative space for people of all backgrounds to come together, expressing themselves in community, supporting understanding and compassion.   

Based in Calgary, Tall Feathers Inc. Is a nonprofit organisation led by James Ziegler, Indigenous Elder Harley Crowshoe, and artist Patricia Lortie. Supported by a creative team, Tall Feathers Inc. aims to foster Truth and Reconciliation through dialogue and cultural exchange.
