Fern Cyr

In addition to her Board roles at Arts Commons, Fern Cyr is in her 9th year on the Board/Finance and Audit Committee, of the Calgary Phil. She is also a member of the Department Audit Committee (DAC) of the Canada Border Services Agency. Past roles include an IIA Canada Board position (4.5 yrs.) and Advisor to the Audit and Risk Committee of Mount Royal University. 

She retired from the position of Chief Audit Executive of a large energy company. Her career included international scope. Prior to her role as CAE, she was the Global Audit Training Manager for ExxonMobil, advising management and training the audit teams worldwide on risk and controls. As Finance Director of Mobil North Sea in Aberdeen, and then Operations Accounting Manager of ExxonMobil International in London, she oversaw significant change during the merger of Exxon and Mobil.  

Fern believes the Arts and Business need to be inter-related for economic growth, community vibrancy, and society well-being. She is a graduate of the ICD program and has an executive MBA from Haskayne. Other pertinent designations include CPA, CGA, CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), and CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner).  Continuous learning and searching outside the traditional frame and context for potential risks is a high interest area.
