Arts Commons Presents
Kristine Zingeler & Scott Ross-Molyneux
Location: Lightbox Studio (Beside the Martha Cohen Theatre)
Dates: March 2, 2018 to April 27, 2018
Artist Reception: Happenings #12 - May 14, 2018
Using the Lightbox Studio as a crossroads, a composer and a painter will explore and reveal the beautiful
similarities between two mediums that at first glance seem distant and unrelated. In opening up both
processes to the public, a greater understanding of the diverse ways of creating can be gleaned.
Through both visual and musical cues, the artists will explore the ways in which traditions influence one
another and contribute to a richer contemporary culture. Sampled harp sounds will intertwine with
percussion in an acousmatic experience that is directly linked to the visual installation. The canvas will
become a three dimensional object in which materials like paint, thread, and beads can pass through and
leave traces on either side of the surface. The artists will create the work in response to one another,
shifting and altering their perspectives to leave room for each other.
Born and raised in Calgary Alberta, Kristine Zingeler has devoted her time to continuous and diverse
learning and is constantly distracted by the beauty in the everyday. She creates artwork with diverse
methods and materials, experimenting in order to find meaningful interactions. Primarily a painter, her
work also touches on photography, collage and installation.
Scott Ross-Molyneux is a composer and harpist based in Calgary, Alberta. He is interested in enhancing
the harp’s acoustic potential with the use of electronics, recording sounds made by the harp and
rearranging them digitally to create a vast and alive universe of sound.
