Arts Commons, Engineered Air Theatre
Includes an intermission
Widely recognized as a Mississippi Hill Country blues master, R.L. Boyce polished his craft in the juke joints and porches of his Southern upbringing, fostering a loose and free style that is undeniable, improvisational, and simultaneously meditative and toe-tappingly groovy. Boyce is a true heir and first hand protégé to Fred McDowell, JR Kimbrough, and RL Burnside, exemplifying rhythmic, hill country blues.
His latest album, Roll and Tumble, released on the acclaimed Waxploitation Records, and produced by Luther Dickinson of the Black Crowes and North Mississippi Allstars fame, earned him a GRAMMY nod for Best Traditional Blues Album.
See this seasoned bluesman live in the intimate Engineered Air Theatre at Arts Commons and you’ll see why he is revered enough to be featured in Scorsese’s The Blues: A Musical Journey documentary and why even the most experienced production teams set up the mics, get out of the way, and let R.L. just do his thing.
