The Third Mind: Recording Studio

Artists Rebecca Reid and Brendan Kane transform the Ledge Gallery into a mini recording studio this Autumn 2018. Reid will create and install immersive installations leading up to a small scale music video productions by Kane. Music video production will take place following each completed installation. Multiple environments will be created and an assortment of music videos produced within the duration of the residency. Fabrication of the environments will take place onsite and continue to evolve within the gallery. The full process includes: material-gathering, fabrication, performance, recording, editing and realization of vision will be visible to the public eye. Recording will focus on solo or duo musicians. Musicians from a variety of backgrounds and identities will be featured; inclusivity, accessibility and diversity being key.
Rebecca Reid is a Calgary-based visual artist and tarot reader who specializes in placemaking, set design, projections and large scale creative environments. She has worked with Sled Island, AGA, Welcome to the West, Offbeat Figure Drawing, Frog Fest, Calgary Outsider Art, Femme Wave, People of the Wild Mountain Arts Collective, Blank Page Studio and numerous other grassroots projects. Rebecca has worked consistently as a set designer for Market Collective, creating immersive stage and photo booth environments. When not working on sets, props and stages she is a Kindergarten and children’s art teacher. Her creative work often uses up-cycled and reclaimed items, drawing inspiration from the sublime, ethereal and transcendent realms. She would describe her work as being resourceful and full of esoteric textures infused with intuitive impulses. Her recent work has included being the lead artist on a collaborative project called ‘Kaleidoscope Eyes’ which focused on the fabrication of a large scale Kaleidoscope on 17th avenue for The cREative Realm project.
Brendan Kane is a music and visual art producer based in Canada. He works to create and document experiences which connect modern incarnations of bohemianism to authentic natural environments. Kane studied both journalism and carpentry prior to spearheading Western Canada’s Music Video Channel; Welcome to the West in 2009. The West online series has published over 100 live session recordings and offers multimedia programming based in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. Kane has worked with Sled Island, Market Collective, WKNDRS, Urb Park and Blank Page Studio specializing in various forms of multimedia production and event organization. Currently, he is the media producer for The cREative Realm 17th Avenue Road Reconstruction project. Among Kane’s passions are DJing, basketball, burgers, hip hop and set building.
