Festival Chorus Artistic Director Mel Kirby conducts this moving ‘Choral Symphony’. Arguably Johannes Brahms’ greatest composition, Ein deutsches Requiem sets a profoundly moving selection of German Biblical texts offering consolation and hope as an authentic response to tragedy and suffering. Its Romantic period vocal lyricism and orchestral power pay tribute to both the emotional depths and aspirational heights of the human spirit. Vocal soloists are the young professionals of Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Program.
