A monumental choral masterpiece
Brahms’ A GERMAN REQUIEM
with The Festival Chorus and Chamber Orchestra
Saturday, May 4
Knox United Church
506 – 4 Street SW
Don’t miss the last event in the Festival Chorus' 60th anniversary season! A Brahms masterpiece sung in German.
His greatest composition (sung in German) offers consolation and hope in response to tragedy. Its Romantic-period lyricism and orchestral colour perfectly express the emotional depths and aspirational heights of human experience.
A staple of the choral repertoire, this work combines the best of the vocal and instrumental characteristics of Brahms’ genius lyrical, song-like melody and stirring symphonic power. It will be the first time the Festival Chorus has sung it in 10 years.
The Chorus will be accompanied by The Festival Orchestra and feature vocal soloists: Soprano, Laura Brandt and Baritone, Aaron Dimoff.
A German Requiem has been in the repertoire of The Festival Chorus since 1963 and performed frequently by them since. It is one of Artistic Director, Mel Kirby’s favourites and this will be the third time he has conducted it for the Chorus in his 28 years leading the group.
