Calgary’s Festival Chorus with Artistic Director, Mel Kirby, celebrates its 60th Anniversary in a joint concert with one of Canada’s national choral treasures. The Vancouver Chamber Choir is an outstanding professional vocal ensemble noted for its diverse repertoire and performing excellence and has been performing across Canada since it was formed in 1971 by conductor Jon Washburn. International excursions have taken them to the USA, Mexico, Japan, Russia, and throughout Asia and Europe. Jon Washburn is known internationally for his mastery of choral technique and interpretation. The Choir will be appearing in Calgary as part of a national tour as they bid a farewell to Jon Washburn prior to his formal retirement as Artistic Director.
The program will include the celebrated repertoire of both choirs covering four centuries, including selections by J.S. Bach, Debussy, Britten, Kodaly, and Poulenc and arrangements by Jon Washburn himself. The afternoon will culminate with both choirs, joined by community members participating in a weekend workshop led by Jon Washburn, singing as a massed ensemble of over 100 voices for what is sure to be a memorable finale.
