Tim Tamashiro's Drinky Jazz Cabaret: Ladies Be Good
Presented by Arts Commons
As we wait for this difficult time to end, please enjoy the Arts Commons Presents Season Playlist below from the comfort of your home. We hope it brings you some joy. Dancing is encouraged!
Ella Fitzgerald in jail!? Anita O’Day, high as a kite in Newport!? Naughty Nica the Jazz Baroness!? Join former CBC Radio Host Tim Tamashiro as he celebrates the bad girls of jazz, their stories, and their songs. This is “drink-y” jazz, not “think-y” jazz, so arrive thirsty!
Tim Tamashiro is a jazz evangelist. He supports jazz artists throughout Canada and around the world and he participates as a singer. Tim is the former host of Tonic on CBC Radio 2. He’s a passionate believer in jazz as the ultimate music education and he also believes that the spaces between songs are as important as the music. Stories matter. Stories can make songs even more compelling.
Tim grew up in Blackfalds, Alberta. At that time it was a very small village of a thousand citizens. Being a Japanese kid in a small town presented both challenges and opportunities. Tim was “different” by circumstance. That helped him embrace the fact that standing out from the rest of the world might be a good thing.
The performance is approx. 90-minutes in duration with one 15 minute intermission. However, please note that because of the nature of this live event, expect the performers to give the time needed for laughter, applause, etc., which will impact the duration of the show.
This venue is wheelchair accessible. Please note, wheelchair patrons CAN be seated in the cabaret area.
