She may have dubbed herself the Ice Queen, but JUNO and multi-Maple Blues Award-winning blues guitarist Sue Foley is as fiery as they come. Born in Vancouver and mentored in the blues scene of Austin, Texas, Sue Foley’s latest album, Ice Queen, is an affectionate reference to her Canadian heritage rather than her cool personality.
“I come from the north, where it’s cold all the time. But it’s also about my love of Albert Collins. He was the ‘Ice Man’ with the Telecaster, and he was a huge influence on me. I base a lot of my guitar style on what he did” she says.
Join Arts Commons Presents and the PCL Blues series as we welcome home a Canadian music veteran to celebrate blues guitar at its most versatile and electrifying.
“Foley's fluent and versatile axemanship has long been her key asset” – Exclaim!
“Raw and relentless…Sue Foley’s ‘The Ice Queen’ is a stone-cold killer of an album” – Tahoe on Stage
