Over the last two years, the world has felt suspended, inert. We’ve entered one door but haven't yet exited another.  This place is uncomfortable, stressful, but also liberating - and artists are embracing this liminal world and welcome audiences to join them. Focusing on themes of transformation, transitory spaces and the unknown, the Two Doors: Dispatches from the In-Between cabaret explores where we are when we’re neither here nor there, and what pathway can lead us over the threshold to the world waiting on the other side. Featured artists in Two Doors: Dispatches from In-Between are Jon McCaslin, Lisa La Touche, Uyemi, and Wakefield Brewster. All performers are participants in the inaugural cohort of the TD Incubator program. Click here for full artist bios.

All artists featured in Two Doors: Dispatches from the In-Between are participating in the inaugural TD Incubator program. As the 2021-22 Fellows of the program, cabaret curators Jae Sterling and Contra – Calgary-based visual artists, musicians, filmmakers, and community leaders – are bringing together a group of artists who have been living in artistic purgatory for nearly two years.

Join these artists and Arts Commons Presents in an interactive, immersive exploration of an artist’s experience of life in limbo.

Completed in 1994 the Engineered Air Theatre carries on the tradition of having a theatre located in its exact location for over 100 years, even incorporating rescued decorative elements from the old Empress Theatre into both its theatre and lobby design. In the summer of 2016, the Engineered Air had a face lift with the comfier chairs and updated décor.
