VL Parker
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
VL Parker has been engaging in Spirit-led art and writing since childhood. VL’s mother was a gifted artist and she grew up learning from artists like Bob Ross with The Joy of Painting and The Magic of Oil Painting with Bill Alexander on PBS. VL studied at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and Carleton University and continues to be an avid learner through mentorships and workshops.
VL has been a part of four local exhibitions and is thankful for the Arts Commons’ RBC Emerging Visual Artists Program (RBC EVAP) as she continues her artistic journey.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
VL Parker is a Spirit-led painter, author, and poet residing in Airdrie, and proud of her Indigenous and Irish heritage. VL’s works have layers of symbolism, often reflecting the light overcoming darkness and connection to the Divine and the world around us. No matter what the medium, acrylic, oil or resin, it all begins with inviting the Great Spirit in. She believes we are all made to create, and as Albert Einstein said, “Art is standing with one hand extended into the universe and one hand extended into the world and letting ourselves be a conduit for passing energy.”
