Arts Commons & ConocoPhillips Canada Announce the naming of the ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning
CALGARY - Our vision at Arts Commons is to promote a creative and compassionate society, inspired through the arts. No other program here at Arts Commons exemplifies this vision better than the newly named ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning.
The ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning is delivered in collaboration with the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District, through Campus Calgary, to address the needs of 21st Century learning.
The ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning is an innovative curriculum-based program that moves the classroom (Grades 1 to 6) into Arts Commons, Calgary’s premier arts and cultural setting, for an entire week of inspired learning. Classroom teachers work closely with industry experts to design a week of curricular activities that meet individual class learning needs. The program length, the deep thinking about first-hand experiences that transcend curricular lines and the time to reflect, elevates learning to its highest levels. The experience is a catalyst for learning activities that occur throughout the year.
The ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning is an inquiry-driven environment that allows teachers to gain a deeper understanding of students’ skills, knowledge, and aptitudes. This enhances critical-thinking, literacy, and problem-solving skills, and facilitates a deeper understanding of community, responsibility, cultural awareness, civic pride, and stewardship.
“We are always looking to find new ways to unlock creative potential,” said Johann Zietsman, CEO and President of Arts Commons. “Through the ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning we’re thrilled to be able to make just such an investment in a new generation of citizens.”
“We’re proud to be the Naming Sponsor of the ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning,” said Kirk Johnson, ConocoPhillips Canada President. “As a company with more than 100 years of history in Canada, it is important to us to contribute to the communities where we live and work. We are pleased to support the passionate men and women at Arts Commons who provide fascinating, educationally rich environments for local students to engage in hands-on discovery, exploration, and reflection.”
“The ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning offers opportunities for students and their teachers to learn about and through the arts in this immersive week-long field study experience,” said Campus Calgary Open Minds Learning Leader Jennifer Meredith. “It enables them to learn about a variety of performing arts experiences based around a big question, which is tied to their year-long inquiry. It is amazing to have the ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning opening up the downtown, connecting the arts community and creating opportunities to Calgary students and their families and schools. Thank you ConocoPhillips Canada.”
"The Calgary Board of Education is pleased to partner with Calgary Campus Open Minds, Arts Common & ConocoPhillips Canada to provide our students with unique, experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom that uncover curriculum through the lens of the arts," said Trina Hurdman, Chair of the CBE Board of Trustees.
“The Calgary Catholic School District is excited to continue our collaborative relationship with Arts Commons and Calgary Campus Open Minds,” said Cheryl Low, Chair of the CCSD Board of Trustees. “With the generous support of ConocoPhillips Canada, our current and future students will have opportunities to discover arts learning in an innovative and vibrant community setting.”
