Arts Commons Presents:
The powerful and passionate percussion of Che Malambo
CALGARY – Arts Commons Presents Che Malambo, as part of BD&P World Music, an Argentinian, all-male dance company, heavily inspired by the gaucho tradition. A gaucho is a South American cowboy and a national symbol in many South American countries, including Argentina.
In the 17th century, the gaucho would compete in tests of agility, strength and dexterity. Che Malambo takes this tradition and turns it into a powerful, energetic performance, with heavy drumming, fast-footwork and whirling boleadoras (weighted ends connects to chords that create fantastic discs of light).
Performing on April 10 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, dig you heels in for a storm of movement, music and dance with Che Malambo.
“Percussive sounds vibrated through the theater. Complex stimulating rhythms made on drums, by clapping hands and dynamic footwork were breathtaking. I don’t know who enjoyed the performance more, the performers or the audience.” - The Berkshire Eagle
