Arts Commons Presents

Happenings 12 – Colour & Whimsy

CALGARY – Artist reception and art party Happenings 12 at Arts Commons delves into conversations about youth and family, experimental art collisions, and the bright and colourful side of imagination and art. Happenings 12 at Arts Commons is an experimental art party filled with new exhibitions, installations, live performances, and musical projects in celebration of our current visual art exhibitors. Taking place throughout the public spaces of Arts Commons and the +15 walkway Happenings 12 will intrigue, entertain, and engage you in unexpected ways!

Join Arts Commons for this FREE event on Monday, May 14 for Happenings 12 6-9PM.

Happenings 12 will see the Arts Commons +15 walkway turned in a delightful art installation mini golf course, courtesy of our current Window Galleries artists Rachel Ziriada and Mikhail Miller. Check out the multimedia sensory installation PASTHRU by Sebastian Jarmula that envelops spectators inside a morphing colour environment.

Enjoy the music of DJ BLKFT and DJ Blackfoot Boy or create your own with Memorial Park Library extensive musical instrument library. Inspired to make your own art? Transform an ordinary rock into a work of art with Patrick Moskwa – or add a frame to a collaborative animation projects with Quickdraw Animation Society.

If this feels like a lot to see, join our Drag Queen and King from Reading with Royalty with Calgary Pride who will tour the event in-between sessions of reading family-friendly stories of inclusion and diversity. Attendees will be baffled and amused by the comedy magic of James Jordan – who modelled himself after Muppets luminaries like Gonzo the Great.
