Arts Commons Presents:
Bus driver by day, blues legend by night, Toronzo Cannon drives into town

CALGARY –Arts Commons Presents, as part of the PCL Blues series, Toronzo Cannon in the Martha Cohen Theatre on May 11 and 12.

The songwriter draws from life at street level to inspire his personal, powerful, and passionate lyrics.

In between touring the world as one of the most popular blues musicians, Toronzo Cannon regularly returns to his home in Chicago, where he drives a bus for the Chicago Transit Authority.

"I'm at Pulaski and Augusta, and I see a guy with a needle hanging out of his arm, shooting up at a red light,” he says of his job. “At Diversey and Halsted, I saw a guy doing cocaine on a CD cover. I've seen grandmothers fighting over a seat on my bus, I've seen shootings through a fence."

These experiences come to vivid life through his music. The Chicago Sun-Times calls him, “One of Chicago’s new greats.”

A fast-rising star, Cannon brings the musical winds of Chicago to Calgary for 2 nights only.
