Arts Commons Presents: Flamenco legend Paco de Lucía celebrated by his original band
CALGARY – Considered by many to be Spain’s greatest musical export, Paco de Lucía practically reinvented the flamenco vocabulary while performing and recording with musical legends like Eric Clapton, Chick Corea, and Carlos Santana.
Paco de Lucía passed away in 2014, but now, 10-time Latin GRAMMY winner Javier Limón has reassembled the musicians who toured with the legend during the last decade of his career, including de Lucía’s nephew, guitarist Antonio Sánchez.
“That first experience of touring America, taking this music and Paco’s name everywhere, thinking of him every day -- it was magnificent,” says Sánchez. “As we toured with this group, each concert was better than the one before. Luckily, we recorded the one in Miami and it’s now a tribute to Paco.”
Producer Javier Limón was a collaborator of de Lucíia’s, who has crafted a loving tribute to honour his friend. Feel the love this October in the Jack Singer Concert Hall as Flamenco Legends: The Paco de Lucía Project pays tribute to de Lucía’s immense skills, while forging a new path in the future of flamenco - part of BD&P World Stage.
