Arts Commons Presents: Tim Tamashiro’s Drinky Jazz Cabaret – Nat the Cat

CALGARY – If you know jazz, you know Nat King Cole, but not everyone knows the story behind the man – how he battled with racism and discrimination for the whole of his career.  Somehow, through all of this, he remained cool and classy.

Tim Tamashiro’s Drinky Jazz Cabaret – Nat the Cat explores the life and music of Nat King Cole, his ups and downs, triumphs and difficulties throughout his career. Join Arts Commons to hear some of Calgary’s best jazz musicians perform hits like Unforgettable, When I Fall in Love, Mona Lisa, and Stardust

“These shows focus on the cabaret tradition, stories woven together with song,” says Tim Tamashiro, creator of the Drinky Jazz Cabaret.  “And part of what is so unique about them is the casual, cabaret format, with some of Calgary’s best jazz musicians.”

Tim Tamashiro is a Calgary jazz staple, hosting CBC’s Tonic for over 10 years, where he loved to discover and support Canadian jazz talent.
