Arts Commons Presents: Party old-school with The Hot Sardines

CALGARY – Feed your heart and soul with The Hot Sardines and their unique take on vintage jazz. This ain’t no elevator music; this is get up on your feet and swing your dance partner ‘round your arm vintage jazz music.

The Hot Sardines have a distinct recipe, creating musical magic with a blustery brass lineup and a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso, all tied together by vocalist Miz Elizabeth, who sings in both English and French with a voice from another time.

With album names like French Fries and Champagne, The Hot Sardines combine covers and originals to effortlessly channel New York speakeasies, Parisian cabarets, and New Orleans Jazz Halls. The ensemble’s original songs have even topped the charts next to artists like Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.

“This was pop music back in the day. This was party music. This was what you dressed up and went out and drank gin while listening to, so it’s pretty raucous and fun,” says Miz Elizabeth.

The party kicks off on February 7, 2020 at the Jack Singer Concert Hall as part of the TD Jazz music series. For more information, and to purchase tickets, please visit artscommons.ca
