Arts Commons Presents: An Exclusive Student Presentation of We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
CALGARY – In partnership with the Calgary Board of Education and Calgary Separate School District, Arts Commons Presents is offering a free student presentation of BD&P World Stage’s We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the generous support of Naming Sponsor Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer and Black History Month Supporting Sponsor TD Bank Group.
This learning focused presentation touches on the subjects of language arts, social studies, and humanities, as well as drama and music education, creating unique connections through storytelling for students, and facilitating a living history on stage.
Outside of his remarkable music career, musical director Damien Sneed has worked with students for over 20 years, inspiring learning through jazz. Sneed has worked with The Juilliard School as a staff accompanist, Jazz at Lincoln Center as an artistic consultant, and the City University of New York (CUNY) as a professor of music. In 2015, Sneed established the Damien Sneed Performing Arts Institute, a division of the Damien Sneed Foundation.
"Through the TD Ready Commitment, we are pleased to support Arts Commons as part of our 2020 Black History Month Series. TD is proud to share in Arts Commons' vision of bringing communities together through stories and concerts that feature a diverse range of Black identities. With these opportunities come knowledge sharing and new dialogues that will inspire the next generation of Canadian leaders," said Naki Osutei, Associate Vice President, Social Impact, TD Bank Group, sponsor of the We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. student presentation.
