CALGARY – Arts Commons Presents TD Amplify Cabaret series is back! In celebration of Black History Month, Strawberries & Peaches opens the TD Amplify Cabaret season on the new date of April 11, 2021, filmed in the Engineered Air Theatre in Arts Commons and shared virtually with Calgary audiences (rescheduled from its former date on Sunday, February 28th.)

Featuring a hugely talented all-female cast of musicians, dancers, and performers, Strawberries & Peaches seeks to refresh the perception of black women in media and celebrate the complex grace that is Black femininity. Led by musician, filmmaker, and head writer for the Calgary-filmed television series The African Family, Lemba (Misha Maseka), the evening features Dallas Hayes-Sparks, Natasha Korney, Sabrina Naz-Comanescu, Morountodun Okedara, Amanda Okafor, and Chenelle Roberts.

“I really wanted to celebrate, showcase, highlight, and tell the story of black womanhood in all of its femininity and sweetness,” says Lemba. ”And thinking of the crazy year that was 2020, I wanted to bring something to audiences that will leave everyone in higher spirits.”

TD Amplify Cabarets are an opportunity for Calgarians to celebrate a groundswell of local Calgarian talent from outside of 'mainstream' in a comfortable setting, all for free! This season, the high-demand series will be shared virtually through an online platform and include live interaction with the artists in real time.

Join Arts Commons for an evening of thought-provoking, energizing, and inspiring performance art. Tickets are free, but registration is required in advance to view the performance.
