CALGARY – This holiday season, Tim Tamashiro and Arts Commons Presents invite you to revisit a time when the holidays meant TV specials, tinsel, and upbeat carols on your AM radio. Vocalist and self-proclaimed jazz evangelist Tim Tamashiro takes us on a nostalgic journey through Christmases past with music and stories rooted in a distinctly Canadian sensibility on Friday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jack Singer Concert Hall as part of the BD&P World Stage series.

The year is 1974 and the Sears Wish Book has just landed on the front step of nine-year-old “Little Timmy’s” house, kicking off his annual present list-making and the official lead-up to Christmas. Relive the season’s must-have toys, family drama, and wide-eyed anticipation of what could be under the tree through a selection of Tim’s favourite carols (from the Grinch to The Christmas Song) and light-hearted anecdotes of Christmases past.

“It’s so much fun to see the faces in the audience light up from the moment the show begins. I love to watch the audience lean into the story and songs,” says Tim Tamashiro. “If you have fond memories of Christmases as a child, I hope my show will make you feel like a kid again.”

Tim has shared this Christmas story to the delight of Calgarians in intimate venues, and now brings the production to life on the historic stage of the Jack Singer Concert Hall, joined by musicians Kodi Hutchinson (double bass), Sheldon Zandboer (piano), Nicholas Bettcher (guitar), and Jon McCaslin (drums). Beautiful staging as well as world-class sound and lighting equipment optimized over the past 18 months is ready to give this ‘Vinyl Café meets jazz club’ style presentation the star treatment for an evening of sentimental family fun.

“Local treasure Tim Tamashiro has been honing his skills as a storytelling performer across the country for many years. Arts Commons Presents is proud to showcase his talents in the big, beautiful Jack Singer Concert Hall as a special holiday treat for all Calgarians,” says Stephanie Hutchinson, manager of presenting at Arts Commons. “Together, we are creating a world-class stage show that Tim can share with more Canadian audiences for years to come.”
