Arts Commons Presents:
Fall in love with jazz at the Jack for Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour
CALGARY – If you have to ask what jazz is, you’ll never know – it has to be experienced. And there’s no better way to get in the groove than with the Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour. It’s the longest continuously running jazz festival in the world (60 years!), and has given birth to legends like Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie and Billie Holiday.
The Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour selects some of the best talent from the festival to hit the road. These touring musicians represent the future all-stars of the jazz world.
The lineup includes GRAMMY award-winning vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant, who won first prize in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition at just 21-years-old. Jazz at Lincoln Center music director, Wynton Marsalis, said of Salvant, “You get a singer like this once in a generation or two.”
At her side is Canadian trumpeter – and JUNO winner – Bria Skonberg, and fellow musicians Melissa Aldana, Christian Sands, Yasushi Nakamura, and Jamison Ross.
Calgary is the only Canadian stop on this acclaimed tour, so don’t miss the show next month on April 11.
